✳ Before you order

Straight answers.

Everything people ask us before a first order, answered without the runaround. If yours is not here, call (646) 603-8665 and ask a person.

Do you deliver to my part of Queens?

We deliver across Jamaica, South Jamaica, Hollis, St. Albans, Springfield Gardens, Queens Village, Cambria Heights, Laurelton, Rosedale, Richmond Hill, Briarwood, Jamaica Estates and the JFK Airport area. If your address is near any of those, put it into the order page and it will tell you straight away.

Is there a dining room?

No. Yah Suh Nyce is delivery, takeout and catering only. Everything is packed hot and either brought to you or waiting at the counter for pickup.

What does buying by the pound mean?

You pick the meat and the sides and pay for the weight you actually take, instead of a fixed plate. It is how the counter has always worked and it is the honest way to feed a crowd, because you are not paying for a portion size somebody else chose.

Is the price online the same as the price at the counter?

Yes. The prices on this site are the prices you pay. They do not change depending on who is at the register and there is no separate event markup on catering quotes.

How spicy is the jerk?

Real jerk heat, from scotch bonnet, and it builds rather than hits. The jerk chicken and jerk wings sit around medium. Jerk pork is the hottest thing on the menu. If heat is not your thing, the brown stew, curry chicken and the BBQ side of the grill carry all of the flavour and almost none of the burn.

How long does an order take?

Most takeout orders are ready in about 15 to 20 minutes. Delivery depends on where you are in Queens, but inside the core Jamaica area it usually lands within the hour. Whole fried snapper and anything cooked to order runs a little longer.

How much notice do you need for catering?

Forty eight hours for a repass, at any size we agree to take, because the kitchen is already cooking from seven in the morning. Three days is comfortable for a party. If the service is sooner than that, call anyway, because it often still works.

Do you cater repasts? People round here say repass.

Yes. The Repass Table is fried chicken and baked chicken with macaroni pie, vegetable medley, tossed salad, a pastry for every guest and juice by the gallon, delivered hot in chafing trays to a church hall, a funeral home reception room or the house, and any dish on it can be swapped for another off the catering sheet. Repass or repast, both spellings reach the same kitchen.

Do you cook pork, and can you leave it off?

We cook pork, so the jerk pork, stew pork, ribs and stew peas with pigtail all contain it. Any catering order can be built with no pork on the table at all, and the tray labels will say so. The kitchen is not halal certified and pork is cooked on the same grill, so we would rather tell you plainly than let you find out.

Can you work around an allergy?

Tell us before you order. Every tray goes out with a label naming shellfish, pork and nuts. Some things we can leave out cleanly. Others, like shellfish and the pimento in the jerk marinade, run through the whole kitchen, and we will say so rather than guess.

What should I order the first time?

Oxtail if you want to understand why people wait for it, jerk chicken if you want to know whether we can cook, and the garlic-butter lamb chops if somebody else is paying. All three come with rice and peas, and get festival on the side.

How do I pay?

Card online when you order, or on pickup and delivery. Catering quotes are settled before the event.
